The authors of Chaos and Coffee consider multiplayer gaming one of their favorite pastimes. Surprisingly, most computer gamers don't have the technical know-how to get their modem games running, and usually just end up playing the game in single player mode. For those who do manage to successfully make their multiplayer game work, it doesn't take long for them to begin searching for more and better ways to play, since with practically all modem games, there are countless levels, patches and upgrades available for downloading.
Busy Signals was created to satisfy the craving of those with a hunger for more. It is not designed to be a
how-to guide to getting your null-modem games up and running. It is assumed that you are a hard core fragger, eager to
find out what's new on the multiplayer front. It is divided into the following categories:
DOOM I
DOOM II
HEXEN: BEYOND HERETIC
DESCENT
DESCENT II
WARCRAFT
Basically, we want to answer the question: "I want to edit my own levels, what do I need?" Not all editors are shown here, just the ones we've used and have been happy with. Yes, we probably did miss some-- if you think there's some crucial piece of level editing software that should be on this list, then by all means let us know.
DOOM EDITORS & UTILITIES
DESCENT
If you're an avid Multiplayer-Gamer, then have a look at the sites below. They're all Fresh and worthwhile to get the latest information on Multiplayer games. There are also some links to the Home pages of some of the software you downloaded above.
The Doom Gate:
(http://doomgate.cs.buffalo.edu/): The mecca for all Doom pilgrims. You'll almost always
find what you're looking for here. The only problem is that it rather slow, and
sometimes you'll get a "no response" error when using the links.
The Doom Utilities List:
(http://doomgate.cs.buffalo.edu/utils/#level_edit): In here you'll find every single utility
available for Doom, for Wad Editors to LMP modifiers. It's at the DoomGate,
which is very slow, so I use this mainly as a reference and then download the actual files at
http://www.cdrom.com/pub or one of its mirrors.
The All Time Best Levels:
(http://doomgate.cs.buffalo.edu/~williams/): The All time best levels, but not by Chaos &
Coffee's standards. Still, if you're craving for a quick level and don't know which of the
thousands to pick from, this link will help narrow down your search, as well as prevent
you from downloading any of the plethora of bad levels out there.
The 3D and VR Game Page:
(http://vr-atlantis.com/3d_games.html): A comprehensive list of links to games that have
any slight reference to 3D or Virtual Reality. Heck, even Full Throttle is in there (I have no
idea why).
The Kali Home Page:
(http://www.axxis.com/kali/): So far we find Kali as being the best Internet network
emulator. It is used for playing all sorts of Network-compatible games on the Internet, including
Doom, Descent, Virtual Pool, and even Mortal Kombat 3.
Hank Leukart's Home Page:
(http://www.happypuppy.com/hleukart/): This guy has been with Doom since the
beginning. He's the author of the Doom FAQ (or Bible to some), and has recently been keeping
a close eye on all new game releases (especially 3D games). If you've heard rumours, or want
to know when the release date of a game is, then you'll probably find it here. Thanks Hank!

The Doom2 Obstacle Course Race:
